Autumnal comfort food with spectacular views.
Overlooking a spectacular slice of the Stellenbosch Winelands, with views of the real-life Guardian Peak, this wine farm has garnered a reputation as an easygoing country destination.
Its enviable location on the slopes of the Helderberg creates the perfect backdrop for a relaxed meal in the country. Although known for its sensational steaks, the bistro-style restaurant also offers an array of seafood, Italian, vegetarian and local delights.
On the table
As the seasons change, so does Guardian Peak’s menu, which is created with the property’s wines in mind. Think tempting, comforting dishes paired with the perfect nectar.
For starters, diners have a choice between bobotie spring rolls, creamy Thai fish curry, Karoo lamb skilpadjies (minced liver wrapped in caul fat) and steak-and-harissa-roasted butternut salad. For mains, Guardian Peak’s famous steaks come highly recommended – this time of year calls for gamey cuts such as blesbok or springbok.
And there’s also pork chops, lamb chops, fresh fish of the day and peri-peri chicken. A sweet ending comes in the form of baked cheesecake, Amarula panna cotta or crème brûlée, to name a few.
In the glass
Fancy stocking up on your wine collection for winter? The cellar is open daily for tastings (with platters) and to purchase any of Guardian Peak’s everyday-drinking wines as well as a selection from The Stellenbosch Collection.
If the sun’s out, relax on the terrace and soak up the views. If it’s cooler, cosy up next to the blazing fireplace with a bottle of red and watch the fiery autumn sunset over the mountains, followed by a memorable dinner. We’ll raise a glass to that!
