What’s on Guardian Peak’s autumn table?

As the seasons change, so does Guardian Peak’s menu, which is created with the property’s wines in mind. While steak (cooked to perfection) has always been a hallmark of the bistro-style menu, for autumn chef Willie Mostert is getting creative with venison, sourced from a small, family-run business, Cape Venison. “I am very happy that I discovered this gem of a supplier. The quality of the meat is out of this world,” he says.

Grilled venison and apricot conserve sosaties with Cape Malay curry yoghurt stars on the starters menu alongside bobotie spring rolls, creamy seafood curry, and butternut and goat’s cheese risotto. For mains, try the grilled venison loin with cauliflower purée, fried polenta, sherry-braised pearl onions and sultana-and-hazelnut chutney. Guardian Peak’s famous steaks come highly recommended year round – or go for a substantial salad, a juicy burger, lamb rogan josh, or roast pork fillet.

Perennial favourites from the dessert menu are the Amarula panna cotta, crème brûlée, dark chocolate fondant, and a lush pecan and caramel cheesecake.
