The Labia Theatre: What’s Showing this Week

Good flicks, special screenings in an old-school bioscope.

Labia Theatre
Labia Theatre

This 1950s-style cinema in Gardens is the perfect spot to get your weekly dose of good movies, selected blockbusters and occasional documentaries. It may not have the latest supersonic charm, but it’s packed with nostalgic retro touches.

There are four theatres (with modern comfy seating and up-to-date audiovisual tech) and a foyer café serving fabulous snacks (from classic popcorn to spanakopita) and drinks (wine, gluhwein, coffee, hot chocolate, spirits and more). There’s no reserving seats; come early and pay cash for your ticket stub (you can also buy virtual tickets online, if you have to…).

Keep an eye out for film festivals (like the Encounters documentary festival in June), arty films and retro hits every now and then, plus they sometimes haul out the film projector for really old-school screenings.

Is the Labia open in the next days or closed as most places?
    Please reply. Thanks

      Hi Gisa,

As far as we aware, the Labia is maintaining social distancing recommendations by having a seat in between guests, and limiting ticket sales as well as use of hand sanitisers. Things are changing on the minute though, so please contact them directly for confirmation: 021 424 5927

Be careful around the Labia. Young friend and companion were robbed at knifepoint by three swines. Fortunately the girls were not badly hurt or worse…..

I must say, I saw the Vice on screen 4 and the surround sound was fantastic, better than most of the commercial circuits.

UCT Hiddingh Campus is no longer allowing Labia patrons to park there – big signs and security guard will not let you in (we went on Sunday 20th January). Best to arrive early to search for parking!!

Hi Alexis, sorry to hear you had issues with parking and thank you for the heads up. We’ve removed the reference in our post to the parking at Hiddingh.
