InterContinental Table Bay: Solandra Pool Deck Summer Sessions

Blue skies, wide umbrellas, comfortable sun loungers, curtained cabanas and a sparkling blue pool, the Solandra Pool Deck at InterContinental Table Bay Cape Town is an enticing place to while away a summer afternoon. For most of the week it’s a tranquil, secret retreat for hotel guests and visitors enjoying an aperitvo, pizza or a light lunch at the pool bar. But on selected Saturday afternoons in summer, the energy becomes vibrant as the Solandra Sessions load: an afternoon-into-sunset experience with great music, cocktails, delicious eats and a sophisticated poolside setting.

Solandra Sessions

Famous for mixing electronic beats with live instruments and percussion, DJ Rene (aka The Frenchman) will be kicking off the season of Solandra Sessions. A popular figure in Cape Town’s music and nightlife scene with his eclectic and engaging DJ sets, his style blends a variety of genres, including world music, retro, nu-disco, Latin, Cuban, Brazilian styles, French house, and other global sounds. Explore the à la carte menu, let the bartender shake you up a signature cocktail or a light and sparkling spritz, and relax to sultry beats as the skies fade to a sunset glow.

Pool-bar dining

Sourdough stone-baked pizzas accompanied by a beautifully crafted spritz, an à la carte menu of fresh seasonal salads, gourmet pizza sandwiches (think brie with truffled hot honey or chicken parmigiano with vodka tomato sauce and burrata), plus antipasti, a South African cheese board, a salmon tasting plate or a lavish charcuterie platter… this is relaxed alfresco dining to linger over with a signature cocktail as the sun goes down. And for a sweet poolside interlude there are gelatos and sorbets, frozen fruit pots and decadent ricotta and chocolate-filled cannoli.

Sundowner mixology

Celebrating Italian aperitivo culture and coastal soul, the Solandra mixologists take you from limoncello Moscow Mules to spicy mango margaritas. There are beautifully crafted spritzes, too (Aperol, limoncello, elderflower or passion fruit), plus sangria, Frosé and non-alcoholic cocktails.

Chilled sipping

Scroll down on the drinks menu and discover an array of healthy smoothies, decadent milkshakes and creative iced frappés (the strawberry sunset with fresh strawberries and grenadine is a dream) for daytime poolside sipping.

Come for the relaxed and upbeat selected Saturday Solandra Sessions, or stop by midweek for a chilled poolside interlude over lunch or sundowners.
