Desmond Tutu United for Humanity Concert at St George’s Cathedral
A soul-warming concert in honour of the extraordinary legacy of Desmond Tutu, this gathering of musicians from all over the world celebrates the 40th Anniversary of his Nobel Peace Prize and his contribution to 30 years of South Africa’s democracy, social cohesion and cultural diversity. Raising funds for the Tutu Foundation’s educational programmes, on stage will be a star-studded line-up, including Ladysmith Black Mambazo, PJ Powers, Zolani Mahola, Arno Carstens, Hilton Schilder & Shaheema Lakay, Joep Pelt (Netherlands), Iskwew Singers (Canada), Francesca Biancoli (Italy), Livia & Fred (Brazil), Soweto Soul, Nhoza Sitsholwana & Andre Kriel, St George’s Choir, DSK Senior Band and, as MC, Nik Rabinowitz.

The Magic of Rob Lake at Grand West
He’s disappeared Adele and has been hailed the “World’s Greatest Illusionist” by NBC… Rob Lake is a globally renowned magician and master of illusion, and his mind-bending show is coming to South Africa for the first time. Physics-defying illusions are his magical metier, but it’s the awe-inspiring storytelling on a grand scale that puts the audience under his spell, in an elaborately theatrical interactive performance that is both entertaining and mind-blowing.

Franschhoek Classic Car Festival
Whether you’re a classic car buff, or just love everything vintage, Franschhoek’s second classic car festival promises a weekend of nostalgia. Over 150 cars will be on display at the Franschhoek Motor Museum on Saturday, including an Alfa Romeo exhibition. And on Sunday at the Huguenot Monument, Forty of the Finest pre-1995 cars of different brands are joined by displays of Rolls Royces and Ford Mustangs (among others). Followed at 1pm by the Rivals Tour Parade of classic cars along the village main road.
Good to know A ticket gives you entry to the Franschhoek Motor Museum on both days.

Wine-Tasting at Bay Harbour Market
Head to the secret garden lounge at this upbeat Hout Bay market and let your tasting glass do the talking. The vine-tastic tasting experience includes some of the region’s finest wine estates (including Kleine Zalze, Spier, Beyerskloof, Bon Courage and Zandvliet) and you get 10 tasting vouchers along with the branded glass, as well as tasting notes. Stanford Wine & Cheese Festival at Walker Bay Estate
There are so many reasons to visit Stanford right now (the Chelsea Flowers fynbos display is in its final weekend), so make sure you don’t miss out on this local feast of artisan cheeses and Overberg wines. Held at Walker Bay Wine Estate and Birkenhead Brewery, there are stunning views over the Klein River mountains, lawns to relax on, live music, and loads of food, wine and craft beer stalls to browse. A jumping castle and face-painting, plus loads of space to play means it’s a family-friendly day out.

Fairview Goat Run
Get your mountain goat shoes on and head to Fairview for their annual Goat Run, a fundraising fixture on the family farm’s calendar. The Paarl Mountain slopes around and above the estate provide a picturesque network of trails to enjoy the fynbos-forward spring scenery, and with routes ranging from 5km to 28km, it’s an event both for dedicated trail runners and family fresh-air-and-fun seekers. There’s a special category called Daniel and Friends, for other-abled participants of all ages to enjoy a wheelchair-friendly and equally beautiful 5km route.

The Magic Box at Artscape
A magical trip down memory lane is guaranteed as this epic musical production unfolds in an immersive sensory journey through 100 years of Disney. An all South African cast of 26 top-notch performers is kicking off an international tour after this opening at Artscape, blending puppetry, elaborate costumes and projections, and over 70 beloved Disney songs that are the soundtrack to so many childhood memories. The story follows Mara as she embarks on a journey led by Mickey Mouse and friends, meeting a host of Disney characters along the way and bringing the stories alive on stage.

LAMTA Dance presents Hollywood at Theatre on the Bay
Dance lovers and film aficionados, if you didn’t get tickets in June, the stage-struck extravaganza you’ve been kicking yourself for missing is back for another season. LAMTA musical theatre academy presents a dance production with all the glitz, glamour and intrigue of the golden screen. The show, entitled Hollywood, explores the most loved genres from the Golden Age of cinema, through the stylistic era of film noir to modern day romantic comedies, offering an engaging narrative expressed through dramatic choreography and visuals.

Orpheus McAdoo at Artscape
David Kramer’s lively new musical tells a fascinating true story, and is bursting with visual and vocal entertainment. Cape Town Opera premieres the spectacular musical set in the 1890s when African-American impresario, Orpheus McAdoo, brought The Virginia Jubilee Concert Choir on tour to South Africa. David Kramer has created new music inspired by early American folk music, minstrel songs, early ragtime and opera, woven together with the traditional songs that were part of the choir’s original repertoire. Truly something to make a song and dance about… and a show not to be missed.
