The Best Restaurants in Constantia
A crop of cool places to eat in Cape Town’s garden suburb.
By Inside Guide • 24 June 2026
Awash with hillside vineyards and wine estates dating as far back as the 17th century, the Constantia Valley has long been known for its history, beauty and its peaceful – almost rural – atmosphere (for some, a reprieve from the city bustle). In addition to wine-tasting, art, hiking trails and relaxed family destinations, you’re spoilt for choice with dining options, from award-winning restaurants on world-class wine estates to chic small-plates eateries and family-friendly cafés.
These are our picks of the best restaurants in Constantia.
Chefs Warehouse at Beau Constantia

This award-winning restaurant, which celebrates its 10-year anniversary in 2026 is situated in a glass cube suspended above the valley and offers a frequently changing, multi-course set menu of fine-dining dishes delivered with relaxed finesse and a side of glorious views. Chef Ivor Jones (who co-owns the eatery with Chefs Warehouse founder and visionary Liam Tomlin) creates an exciting array of imaginative dishes, with an emphasis on local and artisanal suppliers, and an inspired injection of global flavours, including the likes of chargrilled yellowfin tuna with spiced kumquat preserve and coconut rendang. Every bite is a journey of taste, texture and multiple layers of beautifully balanced flavours. Coupled with the open kitchen, chic interiors and world-class wines, this is an unforgettable dining experience.
Good to know Request a table on the terrace when the sun is out (call the restaurant on the morning of your reservation to check availability). No children under 10 allowed.
The Protea Pod private dining space (seating 8 – 12) is a treat for extra-special occasions.
Opening times Monday, Wednesday – Saturday, 12pm – 2pm; 6.30pm – 8pm

La Colombe

The jewel in the crown of Scot Kirton’s burgeoning gastronomic empire serves immaculately plated, inventive dishes in a tranquil forest setting and is a regular on the World’s 50 Best Restaurants list. It was named best restaurant in Africa in 2024, a title it still holds. Each of the exceptional courses on the tasting menus (choose between the complete chef’s menu or the reduced six-course option) is revealed by different chefs and waiters in surprising ways, and with flourishes of forest and fynbos magic. Beyond the serene ambience of the space and intricacy of the menu, there’s a playful sense of whimsy under executive chef James Gaag’s guidance, which makes this an event rather than a meal. From the Silvermist vegetable garden starter and signature tuna La Colombe (served in individual tins) to the final sweet bite, the feast unfolds with a sense of theatre that’s truly unforgettable.
Good to know Venture into the cellar for a special experience. No children under 8.
Opening times Monday – Sunday, 12pm – 1.30pm; 6pm – 8.30pm (last seating)

Beyond

Taking pride of place on Buitenverwachting wine farm, beyond is a sophisticated, yet unpretentious dining destination where everything – from the slow-food approach to the polished service, views and wine – is firmly top-tier. Chef Peter Tempelhoff (chef-patron of Cape Town’s acclaimed restaurant Fyn) and executive chef Sebastian Stehr are real champions of local and indigenous ingredients (often foraged by chef Stehr himself), which are used to create their version of globally inspired, contemporary cuisine without unnecessary embellishment. Choose two or three courses from the seasonal menu (you’ll also get an amuse bouche and petits-fours), or go for the six-course tasting menu if you don’t want to miss a thing. Service and beverage director Jennifer Hugé presides over those departments with an eagle eye. With mesmerising views over vineyards and mountains and a fireplace for cosy winter dining, it’s a top-notch experience in a beautiful setting.
Good to know The Youth Menu is available for kids under 13.

Foxcroft

Foxcroft has soared with its move up the valley to the heritage building at Constantia Nek. Its spectacular views, impeccable service and simply sophisticated interiors reflect its place in the La Colombe family of restaurants. And chef-proprietor Glen Foxcroft Williams has taken his soigné philosophy to the next level, keeping the soul of the original concept with a varied fine-dining journey of intense and thoughtful flavours. From a punchy tomato kimchi and crab dish to a crayfish and chicken jollof of rich earthy spice, and a woodland wander of a chestnut dessert, every bite is full of detail without overcomplicating things. There are delightful elements of fox whimsy in some of the platings, superb wine pairings, stories aplenty, and the tasting menu (seven or nine plates) of palate-tingling adventure is perfectly paced.
Good to know The Foxcroft experience is not recommended for children under 8.
Opening times Monday – Sunday, 12pm – 1pm (seatings); 6pm – 8pm (seatings)

Ember & Oak

A firm favourite at Constantia Uitsig, Ember & Oak is popular with locals (and visitors) looking for an informal but tasty array of global tapas. Tim and Judy Pick preside over a focused menu of punchy small plates served on the terrace outside the Uitsig heritage cottages, or inside by the fire in winter. The vineyard, lawns and Constantiaberg mountain views are spectacular, but it’s the often-changing menu of flavourful, unpretentious (and affordable) small plates that draw a crowd of repeat customers: think seared tuna tataki with aguachile dressing, pickled jalapenos and avo; tataki fish sticks (seared tuna skewers) and Mexican street corn (refried corn with mole, guanciale and queso fresco). Pair them with a glass or two of Uitsig wines, or perhaps a frozen Aperol margarita if you’re soaking up the sun on the terrace.

Bistro Sixteen82

Since it opened on Steenberg Wine Farm in 2009, Bistro Sixteen82 has been a Cape Town favourite for small plates paired with the estate’s elegant wines and cap classiques. It’s a stylish, contemporary space adjoining the wine cellars, with serene views of cooling water features, sculptures and indigenous gardens around the outside terrace. Here, chef Kerry Kilpin’s classical French training is overlaid with her love of global flavours, in lavish bistro lunches and elegant evening tapas. One of the first chefs to embrace the Abalobi sustainable fishing app, Kerry’s ethos of celebrating the freshest seasonal and sustainable ingredients is evident throughout her creative and flavourful menus. Each item on the tapas menu has a suggested Steenberg wine pairing.
Good to know Vegetarian and vegan menus are also available.

The Bistro at Klein Constantia

Come for a taste of the estate’s famed Vin de Constance (buy a bottle and have it personalised with your initials) and stay for a sophisticated lunch on the terrace under the jacaranda tree in summer, or in the elegant dining room by the fire in winter. The concise two- and three-course seasonal, farm-to-table menus focus on local ingredients in avant-garde bistro style (everything is made from scratch): think soups, cheese soufflé, confit duck pie, risotto, seared line fish, and Chalmar beef. Dessert is accompanied by a sublime Vin de Constance ice cream that is a must-try whatever the weather!

Little Fox

Little Fox is the more relaxed expression of chef-proprietor Glen Williams’ Foxcroft philosophy, which opened when they moved to the heritage Constantia Nek building early in 2026. The atmospheric space, with restored original stone walls and thatched roof, opens onto a wide, leafy courtyard looking up at the mountain peaks, with seating for up to 100 diners. Inside, flickering flames in the old stone fireplace keep things toasty in winter. Glen and head chef Keanan Jaftha have created a menu of beautifully crafted small plates, which means you can come for one dish or five, dine solo or with a crowd, and sip on wines from the Constantia Valley. The atmosphere is casual and unintimidating and the food is packed with flavour. Between lunch and dinner seatings you’ll also find a menu of light snacks to go with sundowners and cocktails.

Tryn at Steenberg

Tryn occupies one side of the historic werf on Steenberg Wine Farm in elegant Cape Dutch style, and honours the fiercely independent spirit of the estate’s 17th-century pioneer founder Catherina Ras (aka Tryn). The ambience is sophisticated but relaxed – there’s an oak-shaded terrace that spills onto lawns on the werf side (where kids can explore and play lawn games), a wide terrace leading out of the main restaurant that looks out over the vines on the other, plus a grand fireplace that keeps things cosy in winter. Chef Kerry Kilpin’s elegant but hearty à la carte menu blends classic French techniques with her passion for global flavours and local ingredients, resulting in creative, mouthwatering dishes and indulgent desserts (the chocolate sphere with whipped peanut ganache and toasted marshmallow is a dream).
Good to know It’s open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and includes thoughtful children’s, vegetarian and vegan menus.

Blanko

A chic, gallery-style space in The Alphen Boutique Hotel, Blanko is a favourite setting for elegant occasions for the whole family. Italian marble tables, a dramatically illuminated bar and textured furnishings turn the dial to special, but a straightforward Italian-inspired food philosophy remains front and centre. Kove Collection’s executive head chef Amber Deetlefs says, “The best food not only has to taste good; it should be something sincere and uncomplicated”. Think pastas, grilled fish, steaks and osso buco, as well as oysters, garlic prawns, arancini and burgers. The restaurant walls are adorned with works by some of South Africa’s top artists, including William Kentridge, Brett Murray and Michael Subotzky. It’s a sensory feast.

Constantia Glen

Meander up the fynbos-lined driveway, past paddocks and generous stretches of treed lawns, to discover some of the best views in Cape Town from the expansive tasting room at Constantia Glen. The verandah, with its wicker chairs, lawns falling away down the hillside and panoramic vistas is the obvious choice, but the sheltered courtyard is the place to be on windy days, as is the glass-panelled dining room with its roaring fire in winter. The wine-tasting is excellent, but the signature flammküchen (thinly rolled flatbreads similar to pizza) baked in a wood-fired oven, and a short menu of unfussy dishes including burgers, steaks, salads and desserts, make for a relaxed experience. There’s also a delicious selection of cheese and charcuterie platters.

The Conservatory Restaurant at The Cellars-Hohenort

The magnificent gardens and woodlands at The Cellars-Hohenort Hotel are very much part of the appeal of this Constantia landmark, and at The Conservatory Restaurant, botanical-themed decor inspired by this setting immerses diners in a forest-like ambience of dappled light and leafy freshness. The beautifully presented à la carte menu is designed to be flexible, so you can relax over three indulgent courses, or pop in for a straightforward Chalmar beef burger, a simple steak, or grilled linefish. It’s a special place to take time out from city life, unwind and share memorable meals with family and friends.
Good to know There’s also a light lunch menu that fills the morning and afternoon gaps with easy bites to go with a cocktail on the terrace or at the bar, as well as a dedicated vegan menu.

Parks Restaurant

This restaurant, set in a heritage building with formal gardens just off Constantia Main Road, has had many lives but now firmly embraces the northern Italian inspiration and unfussy menu it offered as 95 Parks under well-known chef Giorgio Nava. You’ll feel embraced by the warm and friendly ambience created by wine-red walls that channel a touch of la dolce vita.

Neapolitan music emanates from the raised terrace of this old-school trattoria, hinting at what you can expect: a homely vibe, nonna-style pasta dishes, creative pizza toppings on crisp wood-fired pizzas, and friendly service. There’s a wide outdoor seating area with green High Constantia views and a fire indoors in winter. There’s also a rather enticing deli section, where you can stock up on sourdough bread, formaggio and Parma ham to take home. Kleinsky’s Constantia

This popular deli has an almost cult-like following at its Sea Point location, with hungry patrons often queuing along the pavement for a seat to enjoy their favourite bagel and schmear. Now, there’s no need to schlep to town as this newest addition to the family has opened in the space just vacated by Foxcroft at the High Constantia Centre. Expect the same delicious breakfasts (the latke Benedict is legendary) or try apple crumble French toast – challah French toast, crème fraîche, apple compote, grilled apple and ginger-cookie crumble – among many others. The traditionally made, slow-fermented and boiled bagels range from simple to maximum flavour – try Norm’s Classic, which consists of free-range chicken schnitzel, honey-mustard mayo, sliced gherkins and shredded lettuce. Pick up some frozen bagels to go and don’t forget to try the classic baked cheesecake with your coffee.

Thanks Neville.
It’s seems like you’re not a fan of fine-dining.
Even so, Chefs Warehouse Beau Constantia, Ember & Oak and Little Fox are doling out delicious dishes, deep with flavour, texture and originality.
Our little valley is quite something.
