Jan Hendrik Van Der Westhuizen

Trained as a photographer and chef in Stellenbosch before pursuing a culinary career in France. Opened JAN in Nice, France, in 2013 and became the first South African chef to receive a Michelin star (2016). Opened Maria, opposite JAN in 2017.
Has published two books, The French Affair and JAN – A Breath of French Air.

Developed a passion for the culinary arts during his upbringing on a farm outside of Middleburg, Mpumalanga; and credits his mother and grandmother for nurturing his talent from a young age.
