It comes around once a year, so it’s worth pulling out all the stops and making Mother’s Day a super-special occasion. This year, we get to celebrate (with) our moms on 12 May 2019 and luckily for us, some of the top restaurants in Cape Town and the Winelands are putting on a special spread. From a Gatsby-esque celebration in the city to a relaxed buffet-style feast in the Winelands, there’s something for every taste and fancy.

Celebrate the matriarch of the family with a deliciously comforting lunch on this lovely wine estate. Situated in a stone-walled courtyard, which was once Joostenberg Wine Estate’s original cattle enclosure, The Kraal is the perfect spot to enjoy farm-fresh food with family, with its rustic chairs and tables dotted among wild olive groves and fruit trees.

And if you need inspiration there’s a whole list of recommended picnic spots, which include idyllic garden venues, such as Kirstenbosch Gardens and Noordhoek Common; seaside spots such as Llandudno Beach; as well as the secluded Signal Hill picnic area. But, ultimately, the choice of venue is up to you – and you can even elect to have the picnic delivered to your own home.
