The Best Vegan Restaurants in Cape Town

The Best Vegan Restaurants in Cape Town Orchard on Long

Being (health-)conscious has never tasted so good.

Plant-based eating, it seems, has gained major traction in the Mother City, with a slew of quality vegan eateries popping up faster than you can sprout mung beans.

But, while vegetarian cuisine is relatively easy to come by, restaurants that serve strictly vegan food are not. So, we went in search of the best vegetable-focused restaurants in the Mother City, and here’s what we found. Whether you’re a whole-hearted vegan or just dipping your toe into plant-based eating, you’re sure to find something that appeals.

A note to our vegan readers We understand that many of you have chosen a vegan lifestyle for ethical reasons, and we hope we have not offended you by including restaurants that offer vegan menus but may use animal products on their premises. Our intention with this post is to support and grow the sustainable and plant-based movement.

If you’ve been to a fabulous vegan eatery that you think we should know about, please let us know in the comments below.

For your convenience, we have divided our list into:

Green & Vegan: The Best Vegan Restaurants in Cape Town

Vegans and non-vegans are welcome at this pop-up restaurant run by Karen Fletcher and Patrick Knight from their home in the Green Point village. You must try everything on the rotating five-course menu, which has various themes, so you’ll get to savour the full gamut. Our favourite was the tasty nut roast, accompanied by blanched asparagus and a corn purée. You certainly won’t leave feeling hungry!

Scheckter’s Raw has always and still serve Cows milk and honey. I called just now to confirm. Please remove them from the 100% Vegan list.

Please also add Balducci’s as they have a full Vegan Menu and separate kitchen to abound cross contamination. 😉

There is a cosy coffee shop vibe in Starke Ayres, sunningdale, called “The Pink Olive”. And they have a couple of great vegan meals! Including vegan french toast and vegan flapjacks. And their brinjal boats are out of this world!

I am sitting enjoying a most amazing sandwich at The Kind Kitchen in Woodstock ( Inside the woodstock brewery.)

I love meat and am definitely not Veganese… however Chef Jay’s Food is amazing.

If you don’t have it on this list you should. It’s strictly vegan but not hectic try to make you feel bad vegan…

    Amazing grub and lovely people
